You’ll find tips for success, things to watch out for, and what to do when things don’t go according to plan.
Here are four things to know before you get started.
1. First, how often should you eat?
We recommend you eat 6 meals a day. Even if you don’t eat that often now, give it a try. It may help control hunger and cravings. You should spread the mealtimes as evenly as possible across the hours you are awake. There is no exact time you must eat any meal. If you miss a snack between meals, don’t worry. You can have it later with your next meal!
2. Do you have to eat all the food?
The amounts of food in your personalized recipes are maximums, so you don’t have to eat all the food. But, if you don’t eat all your meal, and then find yourself getting hungry, don’t eat something that isn’t in your plan. Instead, eat the food you didn’t eat earlier.
3. Are there any foods you can eat that aren’t part of your meal plan?
Some foods don’t have calories or have very few calories. You can eat these foods even if they aren’t written in your plan.
Black tea, black coffee, green tea, and zero-calorie drinks such as Diet Coke, Diet Pepsi, Coke Zero have no calories. Feel free to enjoy them within your caffeine tolerance or try caffeine free options.
If you have a sweet tooth, you can have a few hard candies, mints, or gum.
Ketchup, mustard, hot sauces, and spices have negligible calories. You can add a reasonable amount of these to the foods you eat.
4. Do you have to follow the recipes exactly?
It is important to follow recipes exactly as written for the best weight loss results. That means use the ingredients specified in the recipe, and don’t make any substitutions, unless you have food allergies, or your healthcare provider advises you to do so. Substituting ingredients can result in you not getting the right calories or nutrients.
Following the recipes with precision also means measuring ingredients each time you cook. It can help to have two sets of measuring cups, teaspoons, and tablespoons so that you have one to use and one to wash. It may also help to have a kitchen scale for ingredients that you need to weigh. After making the meals several times, you will know the quantities and you won’t need to measure every ingredient every time.
Keep in mind, none of these instructions you’ve heard here should override your doctor’s or healthcare provider’s instructions.
